The NFL offseason is always full of exciting rumors and speculation, and this year is no different. One of the biggest stories making the rounds is the potential trade of All-Pro edge rusher Myles Garrett from the Cleveland Browns to the Super Bowl champion Philadelphia Eagles. As a fan, it's hard not to get excited about the prospect of adding a star player like Garrett to an already talented roster. But before we get too carried away, let's take a closer look at the situation and consider the potential pros and cons of such a move.

First, let's address the obvious question: why would the Browns even consider trading away one of their best players? Well, it all comes down to contract negotiations. Garrett is seeking a new deal and the Browns are not interested in renegotiating at this time. With the team in a rebuilding phase, Garrett sees this as his prime opportunity to join a Super Bowl contender before he reaches his 30s. As for the Browns, they have no incentive to help the Eagles, as they play in a different conference and are not expected to contend for a Super Bowl for several years.

From the Eagles' perspective, landing Garrett would undoubtedly be a major win. With the potential departures of Josh Sweat and Milton Williams in free agency, the team will be in need of a reliable edge rusher. Garrett's impressive record of 102.5 sacks since his 2017 rookie season would instantly give the Eagles' pass rush a significant boost. In fact, he could arguably be the best edge rusher the team has had since the legendary Reggie White.

It's important to note that despite their strong showing in the Super Bowl, the Eagles' defensive line did not excel in the sack department for most of the season. In fact, their 41 sacks ranked just 13th in the league. While promising young players like Nolan Smith and Jalyx Hunt showed improvement and potential, adding Garrett to the mix would only strengthen the team's defensive front.

But before we get too carried away, the Eagles cannot afford to include either Smith or Hunt in the deal. These two young players have shown tremendous potential and should be considered cornerstones of the team's future. Adding Garrett to the mix would enhance their development, not replace it. If the trade ends up costing the Eagles one of these players, it may not be worth it in the long run. The Eagles young corners and draft picks have been linked.

Another potential issue is the impact on the team's salary cap. While Roseman will likely make moves to free up space, bringing in a player like Garrett will undoubtedly come at a high cost. This could impact the team's ability to re-sign other key players, such as linebacker Zack Baun. Baun was a crucial piece of the Eagles' Super Bowl-winning defense and retaining him should be a top priority. If a new contract for Garrett gets in the way of re-signing Baun, it may not be worth it in the end.

Overall, while the idea of adding a star player like Myles Garrett to an already stacked roster is certainly appealing, there are important factors to consider before making such a move. Ultimately, it will be up to Eagles' GM Howie Roseman to weigh the potential pros and cons and make the best decision for the team's future. One thing is for sure we will be waiting, we will be in play until we are not.
